Frequently Asked Questions About the HSPT Exam
The HSPT (High School Placement Test) is an entrance exam required by most Catholic High Schools. It consists of 298 questions in 5 sections and lasts two and a half hours. It is intended to ensure a student can succeed as a freshman as most private school’s curriculum is slightly advanced compared to a standard public school. HSPT Prep is important to ensure your student begins their freshman year in the proper class levels.

The HSPT is required by most Catholic high schools. This includes Notre Dame Prep, Brophy Prep and Xavier Prep. The exam, once taken, is good to apply to any of the schools regardless of where the test was taken.

The HSPT consists of 5 sections: Verbal Skills, Quantitative Skills, Reading/Vocab Skills, Math Skills and Language Skills.

The HSPT is not an easy test. While the test is covering basic skills, it is very fast paced and structured in a way students are not used to. Students must not only know the content but be prepared for the timing and structure of each section.

All of the Catholic high schools in the Phoenix area offer the exam in December or January of the student’s 8th grade year. Check with your desired school for exact dates.

We also offer semi-private tutoring for the HSPT which allows you to customize a schedule that fits your schedule! Semi-private tutoring is no more than three students per tutor but your student still gets one-on-one tutoring.

This one hour session is an optional add-on to the HSPT Class or Semi-Private Tutoring. It will discuss how the school interview will work and how your student can best present themselves during the interview. It will cover what types of questions the interviewer will ask, how to highlight the student’s personality and what will make them a good student at their selected school.

HSPT Semi-Private Tutoring
10 one-hour sessions | $450 | Custom Schedule
Semi-Private tutoring is no more than 3 students with a tutor. Your student still gets one-on-one coaching with the tutor. This program will cover all the sections of the test and will be customized based on your student’s unique needs.
After registering for the 10 hour semi-private HSPT program, we will contact you within 1 business day to get your student’s custom schedule set.
Additionally, we highly recommend also registering your student to take a practice HSPT prior to their first tutoring session so they have a chance to see how the test is structured. This will also provide an idea of your student’s strengths and weaknesses allowing the tutor to work specifically on those areas. You can register for a free practice HSPT here.
