STUDY SKILLS AND LEARNING STYLES

Free Study Skills and Learning Styles Assessment. Get prepared for next year with study skills building program…..4 hours for $180. Without the pressure from homework and testing, summer is a great time to build study and test taking skills. (Also offered the end of this school year.) Get organized, learn new ways to remember information, learn how to prepare for and take tests, and the art of note taking. GETTING READY TO SUCCEED IN HIGH SCHOOL


12 hours of class instruction. The sixth year for this highly successful class that prepares 8th and 9th graders for the rigors of high school. Topics covered include:

MATH, READING AND WRITING PROGRAMS

After assessing current needs with a state-aligned online diagnostic program and grade level writing prompts, we can put together a customized learning program to help your student retain math, reading and/or writing skills during the school year and throughout the summer. We can fill old “holes” that may have developed over time or enrich concepts learned to help them hit the ground running in the fall of 2016.  

Struggle with Math? Have you ever said, “I’m just not good at Math”? Then, change it this summer with an intensive Pre-Algebra class, Math Olympic camp or schedule tutoring to end that feeling/frustration for more advanced math classes.

Summer Writing Program
Focus on thesis development, concise pointed writing, expressing ideas, citing evidence, writing commentary, and MLA format. Will practice different types of writing: persuasive, narrative, expository, research. Will incorporate writing using book student is currently reading, preferably fiction
Summer Reading Program
Will practice annotation skills, answer reading comprehension questions, and write short answer questions with evidence using the text. Improve speed with McCall-Crabbs reading program uses 3 min. timed short passages with questions to improve comprehension and speed. Practice ACT/SAT timed critical reading practice for high schoolers– to become more confident in reading under a time constraint

For students entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades– 3 different class options. Combine the following to create full day camps: 


SUMMER TEST PREP

Prepare for SAT/ ACT/ PSAT/ SAT SUBJECT/ HSPT/ AP Tests, without pressure from school grades. Summer is a great time to really focus on standardized testing skills for those all-important college admissions, college scholarship, high school graduation and private high school admissions tests. Our highly popular test preparation classes that have been in existence for 11 years have helped students improve their scores in all areas. Jeff, Josh, Marian and Allison are all available this summer to help up your scores. All of these tutors teach classes specializing in one of these test areas.

  • PSAT  Pre-SAT Comprehensive Review Class

Be the first to learn the format of the NEW PSAT test.  A new class offered this summer designed to introduce your student to the NEW PSAT test debuting this fall.  This class will develop the skills to help students learn and master the new critical reading, writing, and math sections.  Perfect for any student entering the 10th & 11th Grade and taking the PSAT.

SUMMER PACKET HELP

IB, Honors, and AP High School classes often require that students complete summer reading and assignment packets before class attendance in the Fall. SEC can assist with packet completion. Summer hours are 9am-4pm Monday through Thursday Starting May 26th.


HIGH SCHOOL PLACEMENT TEST (HSPT) REVIEW

This class is designed to introduce your student to the HSPT they will be taking in January of their 8th-grade year. Students will learn the content and strategies for verbal skills, mathematics, reading comprehension, quantitative skills, and language. Students will work to increase speed, accuracy, and comprehension skills.

  • Fall Session Dates: Nov. 5, Nov. 12, and Nov. 19. Three Saturdays, 9 AM to 1 PM

PRE-ALGEBRA COURSE

This course provides a way for an increased number of qualified students to successfully master pre-Algebra concepts by the end of the 7th grade and complete Algebra 1 by the end of 8th Grade. Enroll now to keep your child eligible for high school and post-high school opportunities when they start to compete for honors and awards, college admissions and scholarships.
