SEC People

One of our most highly prized resources is our tutors and support team. We employ approximately 35 tutors, all of whom are either AZ certified teachers, retired AZ certified teachers, private high school instructors, AZ substitute teachers or experts in their respective fields (e.g.  SRP Engineer, ASU PHD Candidate, ASU post graduate published science students).  Some of the special skills of our tutors include a middle school psychologist, three LRC Special Education K-12 AZ certified teachers, 5 ESL endorsed AZ certified teachers,  4 AZ certified teachers that are teachers for Pre IB/IB curriculum, 2 AZ certified teachers who are AP trained, 3 AZ certified AIMS class teachers, an AZ certified teacher who is a National Board Certification candidate, and a high school college and career planning specialist. Our tutoring staff represents over 200 years of teaching experience. 

Below is a brief write up of four of our key tutors who take on special responsibilities at SEC.

Certifications

SEC is a certified proctoring location for over 190 high school correspondence courses that are accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS) and Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and over 50 high school correspondence courses accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement as well as the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation.

Our outstanding staff resource includes 22 Arizona Certified teachers (fingerprint clearance approved), a SUSD school psychologist, a certified diagnostic testing specialist with Let’s Go Learn and Summit Educational Group, and a SUSD High School Vice Principal.  Our tutors collectively represent over 200 years of teaching experience and boast over 16 Masters’ degrees in areas such as Educational Leadership, Special Education, Educational Counseling, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Material Science, Electrical Engineering, School Psychology, and Educationally Technology .  We are also members of Phi Delta Kappa International, the professional association in education.

 

SEC Tutors

 

Kristi Hartmann - SEC Assistant Director of Curriculum – English    Kristi Hartmann graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University. She received a B.S. in Secondary English Education with a minor in Spanish education. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. She has taught high school English for six years and is currently teaching AIMS support and LRC English at SUSD’s Chaparral High School. She is certified in Special Education K-12 from Rio Salado Community College.

 

Julie Kreiman - SEC Assistant Director of Curriculum – Math   Julie Kreiman graduated Summa Cum Laude from Grand Canyon University in May 2000. She received a B.S. in Secondary Education and is certified to teach both mathematics and physical education for grades 7-12. In May 2003 she graduated with a Masters in Secondary Education from Arizona State University specializing in educational technology. She taught high school math for six years and helped establish an elective course that provided algebra students with extra support and encouragement to be successful in their algebra course.  At SEC Julie not only teaches the Math portion of our SAT classes, but also works closely with students in completion of correspondence and charter school online math courses.

 

Joshua Pantier – SEC Math tutor - Josh is a math teacher at Desert Mountain High School and holds a BA in Secondary Math Education (ASU, 2000) and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (NAU, 2005).  AT DMHS, he supports the Science and Math Olympiad Teams, taught an ASU course for teachers and has chaired the Site Improvement Plan Team.  He attended the November 2007 IB Grade Award Meeting in Cardiff, Wales and was invited to be an AP Calculus Reader (grader of exams).  He was selected as the DMHS Charros Outstanding Teacher of the Year 2005-2006.  Josh teaches HL IB Math  and is our lead upper level Math tutor.

 

Jeff Kalb – SEC Math/Science/Latin tutor – Jeff most recently was a Vice Principal at Our Lady of Sorrow Academy, but will be full time with SEC in the Fall 2009.  He holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Material Science as well as a B.S. in Material Science (Magna Cum Laude) from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (New York).  He has tutored at SEC for 5 years and prior to that was a teacher at Notre Dame Preparatory.  He has also worked in the private sector as an Engineer and Project Manager for such firms as Intel, California Micro Devices, Elan Micro Systems, and Cypress Semi-Conductor.

We also have a full time office manager, Jessica Kulish who is a graduate of ASU with a B.A. in Primary Education.
